Discharge Instructions for Urethropexy
Urethropexy is a procedure that supports the urethra. A urethropexy is often done to treat incontinence.
Activity

Do not lift anything heavier than 8 pounds. (About the weight of one full gallon of milk.)

Do not do any activity that may stretch the repair area. (This includes squatting and getting in and out of trucks.)

Do not drive while you are still taking pain medicine.

You may shower.

For women- Do not put anything in your vagina for 6 weeks.
Home Care

Take pain medicines as prescribed.

Pain medicine can cause constipation. It is important to not strain. Use any over the counter stool softener twice a day and drink plenty of fluids.

For women- You may have some vaginal spotting. This is normal.
Follow-up
Keep all follow-up appointments.
When to Seek Medical Attention
Call your health care provider right away if you have any of the following:

Fever of 101.5°F (38.6°C)

Redness or swelling around the incision

Pain that is not controlled by pain medicine

Heavy or steady vaginal bleeding
-
Unable to pass urine
