Adaptive Equipment  

Use of adaptive equipment will help you follow your precautions to protect your hip after surgery   

Reacher

To put on pants/undergarments:

  1. Sit on the edge of a bed or a chair.

  2. Use the reacher to grasp the waistband of your clothing

  3. Lower your clothing to the floor

  4. Place your weaker leg into the leg hole first, then your stronger leg.

  5. Using the reacher, pull your clothing up over your knees

  6. Release the reacher from your clothing and grab onto the waistband with your hands

  7. Stand using a walker for support, if necessary, and pull your clothes over your hips

To take off socks: 

  1. Using the reacher, grab onto the top of your sock and pull the sock off over your heel. 

Sock Aid 

A sock can be used for putting socks on without bending over.

  1. Slide the sock onto the end of the sock aid that does not have handles. Be sure to pull the sock all the way up until it touches the strings and it is tight against the sock aid.

  2. Hold the rope with both hands and lower the sock aid to the floor

  3. Place your foot into the sock aid. Make sure you slide your foot all the way in.

  4. Point your toes and pull with the handles until your sock is on.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Long Handled Shoe Horn

  1. Place the shoe horn in the heel of your shoe.

  2. Slide your heel along the shoehorn to slip the shoe on.

Long Handled Sponge  

  1. Use the long handled sponge to avoid bending forward when washing your lower body.
